Fries from “The Land of frites”
Fries must be one of Belgian most famous discoveries, together with beer and chocolate.
Some even state they would already have been baked there in the XVIIth century.
Anthough nobody will probably ever know who “invented” the fries, one of the first fries-sellers must have been Mister Max, who had a fries stand in Antwerp in 1842.
These open fries stands - called “fritkot” - were hungry customers wait in line, fit into Belgian cityscapes the way drive-in-hamburgers-joint do in America
